Well Debby didn't hit Dularge but, it sure did cause it to be too windy to get out and drove the water to 3 ft above normal. The way it was looking by Saturday night I made the call to re-schedule my trips, I didn't want folks being caught at the last minute trying to cancel flights. Well Debby moved on and the fishing is great!
I was able to head out Monday on the "Catch Dat One" 20 ft Xpress Bay, the wind was still blowing but, doable. I got out along the Gulf coast line and found 20 nice Spekled Trout and quit at 11 am due to the HEAT. Went back to the same spot Tuesday morning and got my limit of 25 by 9 am! By the time I finished the wind had layed down and I had the Catch Dat One skinning it back across the Gulf heading in.
Well I was planning on doing the same thing today when I got a call from Capt Joel Wakeland wanting to know if I had a charter cause he didn't and was looking for a partner, I said come on! Then come this morning Capt Marty LaCoste's crew missed a flight so he was off also. So what do fishing guides do with a day off? Get together and go fishing of course! And that ain't never good news for the fish!
The 3 of us jumped on the Xpress and put the hammer down towards the Gulf. The first stop had fish coming in but, not fast enough for Capt Marty so we moved on. The second stop was 2 at a time every cast, fish flying everywhere. At 7:45 number 75 hit the Yeti, DONE, that's our 3 man limit!! Man, it's hard to leave fish biting like that!
Fired up the Yamaha and had the Xpress back on the trailer by 8:30! Now that's how to beat the heat!!
